Dental Bridges in Kings Lynn - Solutions for missing teeth

What's wrong with gaps in teeth?

Having missing teeth isn't always a problem, however here are a few questions to ask yourself:

Does the gap show?

If you have missing teeth, particularly at the front, it can make your smile look older and more unsightly as well as being socially embarrassing. If you are concerned about gaps showing then we ought to have a chat about your options

Can you chew?

If you aren't worried about the appearance of gaps, can you chew OK? If you have more than a couple of teeth missing you may find chewing difficult, or you may be putting undue pressure on other surrounding teeth as you naturally compensate for the missing ones, this can cause crack and stress on these teeth. Pop in for a chat and we'll take a look for you and advice you on the best solution.

Is the gap causing harm?

Your teeth are in very fine balance in your mouth and can easily move! (this is why orthodontics are so successful). This means that one of the only things keeping your teeth in the right place are the teeth next to them. So if you remove a tooth it is likely that the adjacent teeth will 'fall' or tilt in to this space. Likewise the teeth on the opposite jaw might 'over erupt' and move. Either way, this is not good news as your ability to chew will be compromised over time. To see if this has happened with your own gaps, simply book for an appointment and we can have a look for you.

More on dental bridges in Norfolk

A dental bridge can be used to fill the gap between two adjacent teeth. A specially designed structure incorporating a hollow crown to support the missing tooth is prepared in the dental laboratory. Similarly to crowns and implants, the replacement bridge “tooth” will be matched to the rest of your teeth to give as natural a result as possible. Bridgework can be constructed from a variety of different materials depending upon the application – your cosmetic dentist will advise what is most appropriate.
