An inlay is a type of filling made at the dental laboratory. Frequently inlays
look much better than white fillings particularly when they are large. They
also tend to last longer. Sometimes inlays are constructed to protect vulnerable
parts of teeth they are then called onlays.
Both inlays and onlays can be made of the same materials
as the metal free or gold crowns. It is also possible to
have inlays made of white filling material but when made
under laboratory conditions are stronger and better looking
than those fillings made directly in the mouth.
